What is yoga?
Yoga is an ancient holistic practice that aims to create union and balance—between the body, mind, and inner self. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning to join or to unite.
At its core, yoga teaches that the body and mind are deeply interconnected. The mind influences how we move, breathe, and perceive ourselves, while the body reflects those mental and emotional patterns. Emotions can be understood as the body’s response to the mind. When we train the mind to relate to the body with kindness, compassion, and non-judgment, the body receives that energy as support and care—and responds accordingly.
Through mindful movement, breathwork, and awareness, yoga helps calm the nervous system, improve physical health, and cultivate mental clarity. As the mind becomes more balanced and grounded, the body often follows with greater ease, strength, and resilience.
Hot yoga, in particular, adds the element of heat, which can enhance circulation, flexibility, detoxification, and focus. Many practitioners find it deeply therapeutic—supporting both physical healing and mental release when practiced safely and intentionally.
