WHEN DID YOU START YOGA AND WHERE?
I started practicing yoga while I lived in Newport Beach. One of the first classes I ever took was with Erica. My first thought was…why is she wearing a jacket in a room at 106 degrees?!?  I quickly became addicted to the hot room, thanks to Erica and her dynamic classes.  Moving to Huntington Beach in 2015, I stopped practicing. I put everything andeveryone else first. This past June I made a commitment to myself to get back into what I love. My best friend in the whole wide world, Kim Gerding, has been going to Yoga Tribe for the past 4 years and recently became a certified teacher.  She would always tell me about how great the classes were, but more so the community….and she was RIGHT!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I have committed to practicing hot yoga sculpt at least 4 times a week. I make sure to look at my week on Sunday and schedule time for myself. I have realized throughout the past 6 months that self-care is very important. As a teacher, I would always begin a workout routine during the summer, only to have school to start and stop everything. This summer, I pledged to schedule classes I would be able to stick with when school started and that has made all the difference!

WHY DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
There are so many benefits to yoga. I could say the typical ones…. losing weight, self-reflection, strength, but I must be honest it would have to be commitment-- commitment to myself.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY BENEFITS YOU EXPERIENCE?
There are so many benefits. I always talk to my friends about how Yoga Tribe has changed me so much in just 6 short months. First, taking care of myself makes me a better, mother, wife, and teacher. I come home energized with a purpose. Next, although not the reason, I have lost 20 pounds and feel fantastic! My clothes fit better, and I am comfortable in my own skin. Also, I have gotten so much stronger. Each week I challenge myself a little more, maybe Isit deeper in my squat or I try to incorporate heavier weights, whatever it is I know I am growing! Lastly, but more importantly, the awesome community.  At other studios, you sit in the class and must be quiet. I love sitting down and getting to know everyone. It helps to create new connections, energize the class and myself.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING POSTURE? WHY?

Any balancing posture. I have the worst feet in the word and balance is extremely hard for me, but I know to take it easy and not be so hard on myself. I try my best and never give up.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE?
I know this will sound crazy, but Savasana. When I first started yoga, I could not do this position. I was jumping out of my skin. I couldn’t get out of my own head. It took everything I had not to run out of the room screaming. In the last six months, I have learned how to relax and enjoy the last two minutes. I’ve learned to turn off my thoughts and enjoy letting go.

HOW HAS YOUR HOT YOGA PRACTICE IMPACTED OR CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
Yoga Tribe and especially Erica have impacted my life for the better. I know I can do anything I put my mind to.  I also know that working out can be fun. I can dance, laugh, focus, and strengthen my mind and body each day for one hour. It is so wonderful not to have to make a New Years resolution. I don’t have to think about my 30th diet or not eating carbs, all I must do is focus on me in 2020 and know I am capable of anything!
