Yoga Tribe Blog

Student of the Month January 2014: Bruce Leamer

When did you start doing yoga and where? I started yoga about 10 years ago with Bikram but stopped for three years because of my work schedule, I returned to my yoga practice at the Tribe about three years ago.

How often do you practice yoga? I try to practice 3-4 times a week, although currently I am out of town 50% of the time so I have been using dvds for my practice while away.

Why do you practice yoga? I started training in the martial arts as a young teenager and I find the yoga is complimentary to my practice. It enhances my breathing and focus and enhances my flexibility. Also I get a calm serene felling mentally, emotionally and physically after practice that can last for hours which I call my yoga high.

What are the primary benefits you experience from your yoga practice? My primary benefit is that it has given me the ability to just let things go and not be so attached.

What is your most challenging posture and why? I am constantly being challenged with too many poses to name one. I struggle mostly with balance poses. If I had bigger feet or I was shorter, I am sure I would have better balance.

What is your favorite posture and why? My favorite posture is the standing bow because I love the way it looks and feels..

How has your hot yoga practice changed your life? It has enhanced my mental, physical and emotional sense of well being. I have less attachment to things that don’t really matter and more to the important things in life. Train and good things will come.
