Student of the Month December 2019: Dana Rapp



WHEN DID YOU START YOGA AND WHERE? In high school, my mom would drag me to her classes in Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Long Beach.  I finally smartened up and started going regularly on my own after college in LA. 
 
HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA? As much as life lets me, 0-7 times a week. Consistently I would say 3-4 times a week. 
 
WHY DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA? I am a high energy individual so yoga does all the right things for me.  Breath, movement, concentration, balance, focus.  Plus, I can do it until I am old. 
 
WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY BENEFITS YOU EXPERIENCE?  Strong mind and body.
 
WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING POSTURE? WHY? Anything that requires a lot of flexibility.  I am strong but not flexible so something like birds of paradise, I can stand and hold the posture but struggle to straighten my lifted leg. 
 
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE?  I like all the balancing poses as they embrace all the things I love about yoga like balance, focus, concentration and strength. 
 
HOW HAS YOUR HOT YOGA PRACTICE IMPACTED OR CHANGED YOUR LIFE?  I take to heart the teachings I learn in class, from teachers and other yogis.  I try to put into practice in my life.  For example, breathing.  If I am getting stressed or anxious I use my yoga breath.
