Student of the Month August 2019: Julie Levesque



WHEN DID YOU START YOGA AND WHERE?
I started  hot yoga for the first time 4 months ago at Yoga Tribe. I attended  3 classes the first week and was hooked! 

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I average 4 to 5 classes a week, alternating with hot yoga and the sculpt and core class.

WHY DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I had surgery on a herniated disk in my back 4 years ago and was forced to change my exercise routine. I was aware of the numerous benefits of yoga, but continued to workout at the gym that I belonged to.  I knew I needed to stretch on a regular basis and become more flexible.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY BENEFITS YOU EXPERIENCE?
My back has never felt so good since practicing hot yoga.  The nerve damage and numbness that I experienced the last 4 years is practically gone. It has made me feel better than physical therapy ever did. 
 
WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING POSTURE? WHY?
My most challenging pose is the bow.  I just can’t seem to get my thighs to lift up off the mat! I’m not comfortable with any of the spinal stretches when I’m laying on my stomach. 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE?
My favorite poses are the pigeon and pulling my knees to my chest. These poses make my body feel so relaxed.  

HOW HAS YOUR HOT YOGA PRACTICE IMPACTED OR CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

Hot yoga has impacted my life in many ways.  I focus during class and let everything else on my mind go away during that hour. I’ve never felt so good physically and mentally.  I look forward to the sculpt and core class because it is always different and really fun! The studio has a good vibe and a lot of positive energy.  I’m so grateful that I’ve made it part of my life!
