WHEN DID YOU START YOGA AND WHERE?
I started practicing yoga when I was about 18 years old at a bikram studio near my hometown in New Jersey.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I practice about 3-4 days a week, but will sometimes double up in a day with a Vinyasa class after the hot series to diversify my practice.

WHY DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?

Growing up I was always involved in many athletic activities like dance, gymnastics, competitive cheerleading and track. I loved being active and being part of a team. However, once I got older, and those activities weren't as easily accessible to me anymore I found myself searching for something in replace that would give me the same amount of self-determination physically and mentally. Thats when I found yoga! When I took my first hot yoga class I fell in love with it right away.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY BENEFITS YOU EXPERIENCE?
I always thought yoga to be some type of therapy for me. After a class you always leave a bit more happier then when you came in (especially when your in shavasana at the end of class and that burst of fresh air comes in once the door opens, its like pure ecstasy!) I just love how its been such a transformative experience for my mind and body.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING POSTURE? WHY?
Anything with having to have good back strength, but I think Locust would probably be the most challenging for me. Now that I'm a bit older and my profession requires me to sit at a desk for long hours my body doesn't bend in the opposite direction as it once did. Also, when it comes to my mental focus I feel all postures are pretty challenging. Trying to stay in a calm, focused, meditative state without judgement while putting your body through such physical intensity is such a challenge, but thats what I love about yoga! It allows me to apply that practice off the mat and in other aspects of my life.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE?
Lately, Spider has been a favorite of mine. I guess from sitting down a lot my body is craving that stretch. Every time I'm in it I feel like I can stay there all day.

HOW HAS YOUR HOT YOGA PRACTICE IMPACTED OR CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
At first yoga to me use to be all about the physical challenges, but now that I've become a more seasoned practitioner I'm realizing that was only half the story. Mindfulness has been such a game changer for me. Bringing mental awareness to my practice allows me to be more present in the moment. Which is something I strive to do everyday in life.
