WHEN DID YOU START YOGA AND WHERE?
I took my first hot yoga class in 2014.  I tried many different studios in the area.  I quickly fell in love with the hot yoga sequence but because I carry a little more flesh than most bodies in the classes, I always felt self-conscience and a bit excluded. The first time i walked into Yoga Tribe, in 2015, I knew I found my home.  Everyone was so inviting and kind.  There was a feeling of acceptance and community that I felt right away.  I absolutely love that all body shapes, sizes and ages practice here.  I want to scream from the mountain top that yoga is really for EVERY BODY!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I start each morning on my mat.  It's the time that I give myself to stretch my body, ground myself and set my intentions for the day.  My goal is to be in the hot room at least twice a week.  If I happen to make it only once, I still feel accomplished.  While its true that some weeks I spend more time cleaning the studio than I do practicing there, I am honored to be part of this tribe.

WHY DO YOU PRACTICE YOGA?
I practice because hot yoga helps me control my anxiety. I practice because I can walk into class with a troubled mind and leave feeling a bit lighter.  I practice because my body is capable.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY BENEFITS YOU EXPERIENCE?
I have found that hot yoga helps my anxiety.  Not only while in class, but outside I can focus on my breathing to calm my mind.  On days that my time on the mat is a bit of a struggle, I still leave feeling positive that I've done something good for my body and mind.  Some days that feeling of accomplishment is just what I need.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHALLENGING POSTURE? WHY?
The balancing series is challenging for me, particularly Standing Head-to-Knee.  It’s definitely a mental challenge that I have to work through.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE?
Even though the balancing postures are challenging, I do love Standing Bow-Pulling.  While some classes I can hardly balance on two feet, let alone one leg, the times that I am able to kick back and charge forward is exhilarating.  My body feels so balanced and strong.  Usually I get so excited that I fall out of it, but it still feels exciting.  Again, always working on the mental aspect of these poses.
I also love any pose that gets that back door open for a sip of sweet, sweet, fresh air.  Sometimes its just the refresher I need to continue.

HOW HAS YOUR HOT YOGA PRACTICE IMPACTED OR CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
Hot yoga has changed my life in many ways.  I have learned body acceptance through my practice.  I have realized that my body is strong and able to move me through the postures at any size.  I have fallen in love with the idea that yoga is a practice, and each time on my mat is a new experience depending on where my body and mind is that particular day, and thats ok.  Its taught me patience and acceptance of myself.
